to go beyond …

The final goal for this project I am leading (December 2009 – June 2010) is the production of paramagnetic centers of polytene glycol by x-ray irradiation, in a controlled way.
These centers are to be used instead of organic radicals in the process of DNP, Dynamic Nuclear Polarization, a recently implemented technique that achieves a much higher signal for NMR and MRI.

Hardware:

  • Design and manufacture of a X-ray source, with 40kV and 2mA power.
  • Design and realization of a liquid nitrogen cooled facility for samples irradiation
  • Control system for optimal distance between sample and x-ray source
  • Interface with EPR spectrometer to verify the centers production
